A new track from Et si fan art imagines Paul Bettany playing Ultron with the Infinity Stones in a live-action movie set within the MCU.
A new piece of What ifâ¦? fan art imagines Paul Bettany playing Ultron / Vision with the Infinity Stones in a live-action movie. Based on the comic book series of the same name, Marvel Studios’ first animated series on Disney + explores alternate versions of key events and, in turn, characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The anthology is told by Uatu the Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright), a being who has vowed not to interfere as he watches the multiverse from afar.
What ifâ¦? Episode 8, âWhat if⦠Ultron wins? Explores its main question by revealing an alternate timeline in which Ultron (Ross Marquand) not only acquired what would have become Vision’s body (equipped with the Mind Stone) but defeated that of Earth. The most powerful heroes at the Avengers: Age of Ultron. After wiping out most of Earth’s population with nuclear warheads, the only heroes left are Black Widow and Hawkeye. After having done very Quick work of Thanos and taking the remaining Infinity Stones, Ultron lashes out across the galaxy until reaching “peace.” Miraculously, Ultron then becomes aware of the Observer itself and the multiverse as a whole, which doesn’t bode well for any timeline, including the sacred one depicted in the live-action movies.
Digital artist Mizuri recently shared artwork depicting Paul Bettany as Ultron live with the Infinity Stones and wearing a cape. The play sees the character standing amidst the shards / glasses of the Observer of the Multiverse. Check it out below:
After Avengers: Infinity War, Bettany took over the role of Jarvis / Vision for WandaVision, and several episodes of What ifâ¦?. The show’s creators teased an overarching narrative, and Ultron stepping into the realm between realities appears to be its fulcrum. Unfortunately, the Observer was unable to do much in his fight against Ultron across different timelines, causing a retreat. At the end of the episode, the Watcher officially breaks his oath and enlists the help of Doctor Strange Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch), who appeared in episode 4. Suffice to say that the Watcher will recruit additional characters from previous episodes of What if…? to train the Guardians of the Multiverse. Based on promotional material, this line also includes Captain Carter, T’Challa’s Star-Lord, Party Thor, Black Widow, Killmonger and Gamora.
What ifâ¦?‘s Ultron appears to be the biggest threat we’ve ever seen in the MCU. If not stopped, the AI ââwill continue to destroy universes for eternity and eventually stumble upon the one we know from live-action movies. That being said, it seems likely that the Guardians of the Multiverse will find a way to stop Ultron as he doesn’t appear to be in any of the heavy multiverse movies like Spider-Man: No Path Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Where Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummaina. Either way, Episode 8 (and presumably 9) introduces the possibility of What ifâ¦? characters making the transition to live action. There have already been rumors that an evil live-action Doctor Strange would show up at the multiverse of madness. Who knows? Maybe one day Bettany will return as Ultron with James Spader (or Ross Marquand) to voice it.
