Submit an Editorial

Opinion submissions should be sent to [email protected]

We do our best to respond as quickly as possible; if you have not received a response within seven days, you can assume that it has been declined. Due to the large number of submissions received daily, we only consider finished plays, not writing proposals. We do not consider opinion pieces submitted simultaneously on other sites.

Our word count requirement is between 600 and 1,000 words. The submission should be included in the body of the email and/or in an attached Microsoft Word document (no PDF, please), and should include contact information for the author(s).

Submissions must be original and exclusive to The Hill, with no previously published content. Any relevant conflicts of interest should be clarified, if any, and all facts, figures and quotes should be from reliable sources via hyperlinks. Be sure to include a brief, non-promotional biography that cites the author or authors’ relevant experience, such as past and current professional affiliations and publications. Contributors should focus on areas in which they have recognized expertise; submissions with more than three authors are unlikely to be accepted. We do not post self-promoting or ghost-written content.

All contributing authors to The Hill are required to sign a contract prior to publication. You may republish an article only after a period of 14 days has passed, with a link to the original article on thehill.com and a “First published by The Hill” reference. Excerpts are permitted during this exclusivity period, of 100 words or less, provided the excerpt references The Hill. We offer the option of nominal compensation based on page views.

Many factors are considered when reviewing submissions, including relevance, timeliness, author expertise, and quality of writing. You may have submitted an excellent editorial, but we may have published other articles on the subject and/or have others on hand; a platform that might be accepted one day might be refused the next. Submissions may be edited for content, style, and space.

Letters to the Editor

Letters to the editor should be emailed to [email protected]

Letters should relate to an article in The Hill and should not exceed 400 words. For verification purposes, only letters including the name, address and telephone number of the sender will be considered for publication.

The letters appear only in the print edition; authors cannot be informed before publication. Letters can be changed for content and space.

Congress Blog

Hill’s Congressional Blog focuses primarily on the politics and politics of members of Congress as well as legislation and issues being considered by the legislature. Articles published on the congress blog page are also published on the contributors page.
