Speedrunning videos exceed mega-views on YouTube, the famous platform with a playlist

While gaming is a massive part of YouTube, a subcategory you might not realize is just as massive as speedrunning. In a new video, YouTube has shared stats about its speedrunning community showing just how popular it really is.

According to the clipin 2021, speedrunning collectively accounted for over seven billion views on the platform.

Without surprise, Minecraft was the most watched speedrun game with Dream leading the creators. If you haven’t seen these speed runs, these are videos of players racing to reach the endpoint of the game after starting a new seed.

just below Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto V and Roblox also round out the top three speedrunning titles on YouTube.

Breaking down the stats further, the video shows how most speed run titles are from the past decade, but others date back to the 1980s. These include The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. Since the 90s Loss is another title that has found new life thanks to speedrunners on YouTube.

Around the world, Brazil’s sprint title is sonic the hedgehog whereas in India it is clash of clans. With a vibrant community and a slew of games to choose from, it doesn’t seem like speedrunning is slowing down and YouTube isn’t expecting it either.
